Quick Notes

GOP Obstructionism:

This is nonsense. The Dems could have passed whatever they wanted for the last year as long as they didn't have any Dems "obstructing" them. The current condition is similar. Dems are distancing themselves from Obama and other progressive ideas in hopes of retaining their jobs. Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas is a perfect example. Down 30 points in the polls to someone who has not declared his candidacy Lincoln realizes the political expense of her decision to back Obamacare (polls indicate 62% of those in Arkansas oppose the proposals).

The Republican "jobs" trap:

The Republicans recently went in front of every microphone put in front of them and said Obama needs to focus on jobs. This was also stupid. The government does not and cannot produce net jobs. In order for the government to "create" a job it must tax the citizens in order to pay for the job "created". This means either less jobs or less money to pay those who have jobs within the citizenry. Of course the money can be borrowed but this simply means the citizens will in the future be taxed with interest to pay for the job. The government's payroll is about to hit 2.15 million people. The scary part of this number is that government employees do not bring in any profits for the government. Government jobs are service jobs that are not for profit, since they are services the citizens must pay for them whether they use them or not, like them or not. A certain amount of government employees are certainly necessary (military); but 2.15 million? By making this claim that the president needs to focus on jobs Republicans seem to be agreeing that the government is capable of creating jobs. They should have been more clear in their statements. Those who really believe in the theory of government job creation should be ousted.

Canadian pol heads to US for surgery:

That's it. Enough said there.

Study shows abstinence education is more effective than abstinence plus safe sex:

As one politician noted, "this is only one study". That is true. Although it was a well documented it is only one study. That happens to mean there is exactly one study that shows abstinence education by itself is effective. To date there are still no studies that show safe sex education has been effective in any way, anywhere. Of course studies can err, but why did Obama base his cutting of 170 million dollars of abstinence education based on no studies? One is better than none, right?

Obama's poll numbers:

Has anyone noticed that a slight up tick in Obama's poll numbers have once again coincided with an absence of talk about "health care reform"? This has happened time and again for the last year. Could it at all be possible that people were listening to Obama's 500 plus talks about his health care ideas and despised the idea? I can only hope he decides to talk himself right out of office for the next three years. My guess is that his narcissism will prevent him from staying away from the cameras and teleprompters.

Diplomacy

From the Onion:

MIAMI—Team officials from the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts emerged from a tense, 12-hour negotiating session Thursday and told reporters that, while they had yet to reach a settlement that would prevent a massive on-field conflict, the AFC and NFC champions were committed to resolving the Super Bowl through diplomatic channels.

"Playing this Super Bowl is our last resort," said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who was flanked by the coaches and quarterbacks for the opposing teams. "Yes, there are some difficult issues that need to be hashed out, such as who will be the game's MVP, the number of total passing yards for each quarterback, and which team will be named Super Bowl champion, but I think we made progress today."

"The Colts and the Saints are unwavering in their commitment to avoid any violence and wish to resolve the Super Bowl peacefully, without a single football being thrown," Goodell added.

According to team sources, formal overtures to crown a Super Bowl victor through peaceful negotiation began almost immediately after Saints kicker Garrett Hartley connected on a game-winning field goal against the Vikings last Sunday.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis reportedly sent one of the team's high-level ambassadors, Deuce McAllister, to Indianapolis to see if the Colts would agree to a 42-38 outcome wherein the Saints would be named Super Bowl champions. Sources confirmed Colts general manager Chris Polian told McAllister that, while he was open to diplomacy and would do anything to avoid sending his players into harm's way, his organization would prefer a final result that favors the Colts 27-17.

"Absolutely no one wants to see these teams forced to take the field and play 60 minutes of brutal football against each another," Colts owner Jim Irsay said. "But the Saints have to understand that if they aren't willing to meet us half way on some our demands, specifically those that are outcome-related, we are fully committed to using all our offensive firepower to achieve our goals."

"If this game is played, I assure you it's going to be a bloodbath," Irsay continued.

Saints owner Tom Benson told reporters that, while he believes the teams are capable of compromise, the major sticking point preventing the negotiations from moving forward has been a failure to agree on who would be the winner of the Super Bowl.

"The Colts don't seem to want to bend on this, and unfortunately, this is one area where we as an organization are firm," Benson said. "We are more than willing to give the Colts 36, 42, or even 986 points, just so long as the Saints receive 37, 43, or 987 in turn."

Continued Benson, "I'd just like the Colts to take a moment and think about what this long, bloody clash would be like, not only for their players, who will be putting themselves in the line of fire, but also for their families, who will have to watch their husbands and fathers be shipped out to Miami, some of them for the second time."

Commissioner Goodell said both teams reached a tentative agreement Thursday for the Saints to win a theoretical opening coin toss. However, this arrangement was contingent upon Saints kickoff return man Courtney Roby not running the ball deep into Indianapolis territory—an incursion the Colts said they would consider an act of aggression.

While some have praised Goodell's step-by-step approach to reach a game outcome through diplomacy, many believe it won't be enough.

"In my experience, negotiations like this always break down, and on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 6:28 p.m., all hell will break loose," said former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who has tried with little success to broker similar deals. "It will be just like last year and the year before that and the year before that. You'd think that after what the Giants did to the Patriots in 2008 these guys would learn their lesson."

Added Tagliabue, "That entire Patriots team was basically wiped out that night."

As of press time, Saints coach Sean Payton had been fired for making a verbal agreement to lose the Super Bowl prior to it being played.

State of the Union - Condensed Version

Yes this is long. But if you watched the speech you know this is EXTREMELY CONDENSED! It was essentially a campaign speech. If you watched it, I doubt you feel any more knowledgeable about the "state of the union".

It took me all of ten minutes into the speech before the words, “oh God” came from my mouth. Yes, Obama is announcing a new “jobs bill”. We don’t have any more money! I don’t care if it is for a sick nun hit by a bus; there is no more money. Our politicians are like crack fiends; always finding a “good” reason for another hit. In the governments case the hit is borrowing money.

By the way, the Recovery Act stinks to heaven. I also don’t care about creating the jobs of tomorrow. Can we worry about the jobs of today first? Demand will supply the jobs of tomorrow. I don’t trust our politicians to project tomorrow’s date never the less the actual jobs needed for the future.

The president then went on to say how bad the last decade was because tuition and insurance increased so much. Really? First, many of us made some pretty good money in the last decade. It obviously slowed down but we had some pretty damn good years. Second, did Obama ever consider the law of supply and demand? Quit telling everyone they need to go to college and then make borrowing money to go to college so easy. The government and culture has created a false truth that has increased demand, hence increased tuitions. We now have a ton of young adults that have knowledge of microeconomics but few who can accurately cut a piece of drywall.

Next we had the “comprehensive climate bill”. Pelosi got so excited she almost had a facial inflexion. I thought this was pretty ironic. Not too much earlier in the speech Obama gave a sob story about a little town in Pennsylvania, Allentown. This town has been suffering for decades now. Want to know why this town went from boom to bust? The reason was the EPA. The EPA made this coal/steel town go away. The jobs went overseas where the regulations weren’t as strict. Just an idea but maybe we want to scratch the climate bill talk and get rid of the EPA. I bet towns across Pennsylvania and Ohio would start putting people to work immediately. But nah, lets tighten the screws on these manufacturing towns.

Oh by the way, if you go to college and borrow a crap load of money you can pass that on to the American tax payer if you go into “public service”. I guess this means the mechanic, salesperson, landscaper, etc., etc, etc, do no service beneficial to the public. Therefore, they will pay the tuition bill for those who choose to work for Acorn and other caring organizations that are so helpful to our society.

Ahh and then there was Obama’s admission that he was at fault for something…not being clear enough to the American people. That’s been the problem. Obama’s clarity. No Mr. President, we understand you loud and clear. The problem is we don’t like your ideas. When I say “we”, I’m not just speaking about myself and a few conservatives. What I mean is the “we” that now includes over 50 percent of the population and almost 60 percent of voters.

Forty minutes in we finally got to it. All of you playing drinking games along with the speech started pounding here. Minute marker 40 = blame Bush. “I’m now throwing out a bunch of numbers that make no sense in order to make my fault in the current debacle look non-existent. By the way, I’m going to freeze spending at the 2 trillion dollar a year deficit I brought us to. I also want to be clear, I’m raising taxes on all of your bosses but I’m going to say that I’m ending the tax cuts they received at an earlier time before I got here that I would have never have accepted but in turn would have actually have increased them and therefore I am going to bring the taxes back to the level that I projected in by sentiments as a college sophomore and before I was in any office other than my professors and even despite the fact that if you break this down you will realize I am basically saying I am raising taxes to help the economy and despite the fact no reasonable businessman or economist believes this is a good thing I am going to ramble on long enough with populist phrases that scored well in focus groups so you don’t even realize what I am saying”.

We then went to unity master. How has that worked so far? I liked one thing Obama said; “we were sent here to serve our citizens”. Great, because your citizens are telling you to stop. Stop everything. Your citizens are telling you by a four to one margin that you are going the wrong way. In other words, scratch everything you have said and leave us alone. Leave the states alone. Leave the banks alone. Leave businesses alone. Leave the oil companies alone. Leave those making over $250k alone. Leave us all alone.

Obama finally finished with, “I don’t quit”. Well, looks like our job is not over. If he would just quit we could relax but apparently it looks like we have a lot of fighting left to do to make sure his fight doesn’t win.

Extemporaneous notes:

I couldn’t help but notice that Biden and Pelosi seem to have invested greatly in the cosmetic manipulation industry. Between Biden’s forehead and the corners of Pelosi’s mouth, there was absolutely zero movement.

Biden also seems to have a bit of chicken head syndrome (no not like that), a constant clucking motion where the head incessantly moves back and forth with no rhyme or reason. I thought he was just nodding in agreement but the nodding continued through everything; applauses, statements, segways, no matter, Biden was nodding.

Did anyone else notice the Generals and Admirals reaction to Obama’s repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell”? Three vomited, the others held it together.

Obama stated that Americans have “lost faith” in the government. Maybe, but this is not wholly true. Our original government had no faith in the government. That is why the founding fathers set up the government for grid lock. The founding fathers did not trust the government and knew that it wanted to grow out of control. We ought not to have faith in our government and should have a government scared as hell of the people.

Obama is still trying to act as if he is an outsider (denouncing “Washington”)but seems to fail to realize that he is “Washington” now.

Obama denounced the latest Supreme Court decision that defended the 1st Amendment while the Judges were sitting in the front row.

For my friends in my old home state....

Rubio's response to SotU:

"As the President outlined his priorities for the coming year, I did not get a clear sense that he understands the underlying flaws in his approach and the changes that need to be made to govern in a more responsible fashion and confront the economic crisis his policies have made worse.

"The most pressing issue facing our country today is the struggling economy, our crushing debt and the staggering unemployment rate. Ten percent of Americans are unemployed and, here in Florida, more than a million Floridians are without work. Putting the economy back on track does not require more government programs, higher taxes or more reckless government spending. It requires just the opposite.

"Unfortunately, the President defiantly struck a course for more of the same with another spending bill disguised as stimulus, a government takeover of health care disguised as reform, and a massive new tax on Americans disguised as clean energy initiatives.

"The President also struck a curiously partisan tone while lecturing others about the evils of partisanship. He certainly didn’t move away from liberalism or to the center.

"I will go to Washington and work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, willing to protect the things that make America exceptional. I will be a voice for Floridians in standing up to misguided ideas and policies, while offering clear alternatives."

And another thing...

"I did not raise taxes a dime for anyone". Yeah, that's nice. But Obama forgot to mention one little thing. Remember that "tax relief" for everyone? The one that saved us all about $15/week. Well, since things didn't quite work out so well that was only temporary relief. What I mean is that what was withheld from our checks we now owe (if you made more than a certain amount of money). If you are like me you don't give a dime to the government if you don't have to. I am not one of those people that pays extra so I can get money back in the spring. I am neurotic about the deductions I take and believe in keeping my money rather than letting the government have it to make interest, no matter how small, that is my money to make interest on.

Because of Obama's "stimulus" I now have to cut a check to the IRS. Thanks Prez. I'm just going to guess that that $15/week did little to stimulate the economy. I will further guess that those of us couples getting to pay an extra $1500 in April will be spending a little less on our summer vacations. Just a guess. Does anyone want to guess what my sentiments are on our reigning president and his idiotic schemes?

Just for starters

I'm working on a full summary but one thing that particularly bothered me was Obama's grumbling about a Supreme Court decision while the Judges were sitting in the front row. I just thought it was in bad taste but upon further review it looks as if Obama was either lying or didn't understand the law or decision; which seemed to prompt a response from Justice Alito ("not true"). Video here

Here is the explanation from law professor Bradley A. Smith (Josiah H. Blackmore II/Shirley M. Nault Designated Professor of Law at Capital University Law School)

The Court held that 2 U.S.C. Section 441a, which prohibits all corporate political spending, is unconstitutional. Foreign nationals, specifically defined to include foreign corporations, are prohibiting from making "a contribution or donation of money or ather thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State or local election" under 2 U.S.C. Section 441e, which was not at issue in the case. Foreign corporations are also prohibited, under 2 U.S.C. 441e, from making any contribution or donation to any committee of any political party, and they prohibited from making any "expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication... ."

This is either blithering ignorance of the law, or demagoguery of the worst kind.

State of the Union Drinking Games

Jonah Goldberg's ideas here.

Sample. Drink when Obama says:

"Let me be clear"
"Make no mistake"
"This will not be easy"

Other ideas (stolen from friend's email)

1. Are you drinking beer?
If yes, take a sip every time you hear the following: hope, change, renewal, Haiti, progress, let me be clear, this will not be easy, consensus, G-d, bipartisan, reform, justice, international community, fairness, coalition, all citizens, Saul Alinsky, church, education, civil rights, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., any references to all of this being W's fault.

And take 2 aspirin with a 12 oz. glass of water before you go to bed.

2. Are you doing shots?
If yes, drink only when POTUS makes a self-important smirk at the camera, fumbles with the teleprompter, or some little-known Congressman shouts something hilarious.
If you're still awake at the conclusion of the speech, drink every time Chris Matthews coos like a smitten teenager about POTUS' renewed energy/optimism/transformative leadership.

And try not to vomit.

If you still have any manual dexterity at all, eat an order of Pokey Stix before you go to bed. (If Pokey Stix are unavailable in your area, get the greasiest pizza possible.)

3. Are you drinking wine?
Please don't. This is a drinking game. You won't look more sophisticated. You will look uptight and out of touch. Like someone we all know...

4. Out of practice with drinking games?
Try a favorite of my beloved alma mater- 1/3 sweet tea, 1/3 lemonade, 1/3 good bourbon (Woodford Reserve is a good option). It's called a Bourbon Meyer and it's just as tasty as it sounds.

Brown wins and Dems lose their minds...

So far Olbermann has tried to state the term "tea-bagger" originated from the Tea Party. Unfortunately, for him, he fails to see the difference in "tea-bagging" Congress by sending them tea bags to remind them of the nation's dissatisfaction with high taxes and the perverse term that refers to someone dropping their scrotum in someone's mouth. I could only assume the latter was the way Anderson Cooper and Olbermann were using it as they giggled like school girls.

We also have Howard Dean fingering the person to blame for Coakley's loss....George Bush. That's right, Dean says it is Bush's fault that Brown was able to take over the "Kennedy" seat.

The White House, the DNC, and Camp Coakley are urinating on each other through "leaked" memos.

It is one thing for Iran to tell Obama "no". It is another for China, Copenhagen (twice), Russia, New Jersey, Virginia and half the populated world to tell Obama to get lost. But it is a whole other thing for the people of the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts to tell Obama, "no thanks man, I don't need you messing up our lives too" (re: Office Space).

Back to my disgusting joy of watching MSNBC after a devastating loss.

I'm working....

....stay up to date on today's election here.
